Which bed do you actually need?
- Manual bed — height and backrest adjusted by crank handles. The most economical option, and fine when a family member or attendant is always around to turn the handles.
- Semi-electric bed — backrest and knee section motorised with a handset, height still manual. The usual choice for long recovery at home.
- Fully electric bed — height, backrest and knee section all motorised, adjustable by the patient themselves. Best where the patient has some independence, or where a single carer manages alone.
- ICU-style bed — additional positions and fittings for high-dependency patients, normally paired with ICU care at home.
If you are unsure, tell our coordinator the patient's weight, whether they can sit up unaided, and who will be moving them. That is usually enough to point at the right bed.

What affects the price
Rental is charged monthly. The figure depends on a few honest variables rather than a single sticker price:
- Bed type — manual is the least expensive, fully electric the most.
- Mattress — a standard foam mattress costs less than an air or alternating-pressure mattress.
- Rental length — longer periods usually attract a better monthly rate.
- Deposit — a refundable deposit is normally taken and returned when the bed comes back in working order.

Renting or buying
Renting almost always makes sense for a recovery measured in weeks or a few months — a post-surgical patient, someone recovering from a fracture, or a short palliative period. Buying starts to make sense only for a permanent, long-term situation where the bed will be in use for years, and even then it leaves you owning something bulky that is hard to resell.

Beds and nursing together
