Varolyn Health Guide

Straight answers to the questions families actually ask, written in plain language, with the source for every figure named on the page.

Home › Health Guide

The Varolyn Health Guide is a reference library, not a blog. Each page answers one question — what a test measures, what a published reference range actually says, what a warning sign looks like — and names the source it came from. It exists because families kept asking us the same things on the phone, and because a lot of what is written about these topics online is either vague or invented.

What you will not find here is a diagnosis. A reference range describes a group of people; it cannot tell you what your own result means. That is your doctor’s job, with your history and symptoms in front of them.

Blood sugar and diabetes

What the common glucose tests measure, what the published figures are, and where the major bodies disagree with each other.

Browse the whole category: Blood Sugar & Diabetes.

Blood pressure and heart

What the two numbers mean, how to measure at home so the reading is worth having, and an honest answer about whether ‘normal by age’ is a real thing.

Browse the whole category: Blood Pressure & Heart.

Blood tests

What a report is describing, in plain words, with the published reference intervals and who published them.

Browse the whole category: Blood Tests. If you need the test itself collected at home, that is on lab tests at home.

Elderly health

The things that most often go wrong at home, and what actually reduces the risk.

Home healthcare

Decisions families have to make, explained without a sales pitch attached.

How these pages are written

Every figure on a Health Guide page is checked against published guidance from bodies whose material is public and citable — the World Health Organization, the US National Institutes of Health and MedlinePlus, the UK National Health Service and NICE, and recognised professional bodies. The source is named and linked on the page, and each page shows when it was last checked.

Where sources disagree, we say so rather than picking the tidier number. Where a figure could not be verified, it is left out. The full standard is on our editorial policy page.

We do not put an individual doctor’s name on a page as reviewer unless that person has personally checked it. Content is written with Varolyn’s care staff and checked against the sources named on each page.

Where the Health Guide ends and care begins

These pages explain. They do not treat. If reading one leaves you thinking somebody at home needs help, the services are separate: home nursing, elder care, physiotherapy at home, lab tests at home and the rest are listed on our services page.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Varolyn Health Guide?

It is a reference library of plain-language health explanations covering blood sugar, blood pressure, common blood tests, elderly health and home care. Each page answers one question and names the published source behind every figure it gives.

Can the Health Guide tell me what my test result means?

No. A reference range describes a population, not a person. The same figure can be unremarkable in one person and worth acting on in another, depending on age, history, symptoms, pregnancy and medicines. Only your treating doctor can interpret your result.

Which sources does Varolyn use?

Published guidance from the World Health Organization, the US National Institutes of Health and MedlinePlus, the UK National Health Service and NICE, and recognised professional bodies. Where a page states a figure, the source is named and linked on that page.

Is this the same as the Varolyn blog?

No. The blog carries timely articles and company updates. The Health Guide is an evergreen medical reference library with dated reviews and cited sources.

Is the Health Guide only for people in Bangalore?

No. The health explanations apply anywhere. Varolyn's care services are delivered in Bengaluru, and those are linked separately from the explanations.

Important: this page is general health information, not medical advice, and it cannot tell you what your own result or symptom means — only your treating doctor can do that. Varolyn does not provide emergency services — in an emergency call 108 or go to the nearest hospital.
