Home › Health Guide › Blood Pressure & Heart
Blood pressure is written as two numbers — the pressure while the heart is pumping, and the pressure while it rests between beats. Both matter, and a single reading taken badly can be more misleading than no reading at all.
These pages cover what the numbers mean, how to take a reading worth acting on, and one thing many websites get wrong: the widely-copied ‘normal blood pressure by age’ tables are not something the major guideline bodies actually publish for adults. We explain what they do publish instead.

How to use these pages
Each page answers one question and names the published source for every figure it gives. None of them can tell you what your own result or symptom means — that judgement belongs to the doctor who knows the patient. Where the major bodies disagree with each other, we say so rather than presenting one number as settled fact.

Frequently asked questions
What does this category cover?
Blood Pressure and Heart guides explain the common questions families ask about this area, with the published source named for every figure. They are informational pages, not diagnostic tools.
Can these pages tell me if something is wrong?
No. They explain what tests and warning signs describe in general. Whether something is wrong for a particular person is a clinical judgement that needs their history, symptoms and medicines — that is the treating doctor's role.
How often are these pages checked?
Each page shows the date it was last checked against its cited sources. If guidance from a source changes, the page is updated and the date changes with it.
Do I have to be in Bangalore to use these guides?
No. The explanations apply anywhere. Only Varolyn's care services are Bengaluru-based.
Want blood pressure monitored properly at home?
Call and describe the situation. If home care is not the right answer, we will say so.
