Home › Health Guide › Elderly Health
Most of what goes wrong for an older person at home is predictable, and a good part of it is preventable. A fall, a pressure sore, a stroke that nobody recognised quickly enough — these are the events that change a family’s year.
These pages cover recognising the emergencies and reducing the everyday risks. Two of them are about acting fast; two are about the unglamorous daily work that quietly prevents harm.

How to use these pages
Each page answers one question and names the published source for every figure it gives. None of them can tell you what your own result or symptom means — that judgement belongs to the doctor who knows the patient. Where the major bodies disagree with each other, we say so rather than presenting one number as settled fact.

Frequently asked questions
What does this category cover?
Elderly Health guides explain the common questions families ask about this area, with the published source named for every figure. They are informational pages, not diagnostic tools.
Can these pages tell me if something is wrong?
No. They explain what tests and warning signs describe in general. Whether something is wrong for a particular person is a clinical judgement that needs their history, symptoms and medicines — that is the treating doctor's role.
How often are these pages checked?
Each page shows the date it was last checked against its cited sources. If guidance from a source changes, the page is updated and the date changes with it.
Do I have to be in Bangalore to use these guides?
No. The explanations apply anywhere. Only Varolyn's care services are Bengaluru-based.
Need help caring for an elderly parent at home?
Call and describe the situation. If home care is not the right answer, we will say so.
